This month we are looking forward to the Emerald Coast Open Lionfish Tournament. This is not a typical style tournament where catches are just weighed for size, but instead, the Lionfish Tournament serves a bigger goal at large for our area’s ecosystem. The Lionfish is a species that preys on native fish and have shown to reduce native fish populations by up to more than 90%. This is one of the main reasons Lionfish Removal and Awareness Week is so important!
This year HarborWalk Village, which is just an elevator ride away from the Emerald Grande, is hosting its first event in conjunction with the Emerald Coast Open. On Saturday, May 14th from Noon to 4:00pm Lionfish & Libations will be happening! Guest can take part in samplings of local brews, craft beers, seltzers, and more while enjoying live music, conservation and art vendors, lionfish demonstrations, and Lionfish Tournament Weigh-Ins. Proceeds benefit the Fish and Wildlife Foundation of Florida Inc. Tasting armbands can be purchased now! Get yours today before prices increase on the event day.
HarborWalk Village hosts various ticketed events throughout the year celebrating the area’s local taste. One that has become very well known is Half Shells on the Harbor in November. Half Shells on the Harbor is an oyster festival bringing together local oyster farmers and restaurants alike to celebrate and enjoy the taste of this briny shellfish. Keep checking back on their Facebook page to be the first to know when tickets go on sale for this Fall’s Festival taking place on Saturday, November 12th, 2022.
